PENNE
and the bastides of the Tarn and Tarn & Garonne
|
The
region between Albi and Montauban is rich in
ancient villages perched on rocky outcrops, in bastide
towns and castlenau built as 'new towns'
in the 14th century but remaining virtually unchanged
to this day. The Aveyron and Tarn rivers have
cut
deep gorges through the area giving us a dramatic
and varied landscape of rock and forest, castles
and untamed nature. This is one of a
number of luxury gîtes in this eclectic
part of France.
Penne-
3 bedrooms/6 guests

Penne is the undiscovered pearl of the Tarn/Tarn&Garonne region: clinging
to a steep outcrop of rock crowned with the ruins of an 11th century castle
the village is entirely unspoilt, conserving its narrow cobbled streets
and laneways and normal village life. The gîte
is a renovated mediaeval house on one of the quieter lanes with south-facing
views over the surrounding oak forests. To the north hang the imposing crags
of the hillside and the castle fortifications. The village has a lively café and
restaurant.
